Prostate Cancer Supportive Care Program
The Vancouver Prostate Centre provides the Supportive Care Program for those newly diagnosed with the disease. It consists of six 1.5-hour modules that explain prostate cancer, various forms of treatment treatment and how to deal with treatment side effects. The six modules are:
- Introduction to Prostate Cancer and Primary Treatment Options
- Managing the Impact of Prostate Cancer Treatments on Sexual Function and Intimacy
- Lifestyle Management: Nutrition & Physical Activity
- Adapting to Androgen Deprivation Therapy
- Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy for Urinary Incontinence
- Counselling Services & Group Therapy Workshops
- Advanced Disease Management
It is advisable to attend as many of these sessions as possible prior to making a treatment decision. If you can attend only one, then be sure to choose Introduction to PC and Primary Treatment Options. During that session, you will have the opportunity to speak privately to both an oncologist and urologist.
