SIRvivor BC Exercise Program
WHAT IS SIRVIVOR BC?
- Runs for 6 to 12 weeks, consisting of 2 one-hour sessions each week
- Tailored for men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer
- Focuses on strength development through resistance-based exercise, with activities for
cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, and balance
- Modifiable for all fitness levels
- Available at community centres and online through Zoom video conference
- Delivered by BC Parks & Recreation Association fitness instructors trained in leading
exercise for men with prostate cancer
VIRTUAL PROGRAM
- Open to any eligible men in BC
- Requires no exercise equipment – exercises use body weight for resistance
- Delivered through Zoom video conference (access with a free account)
- Pre-program tech support offered to help you set up Zoom software and prepare your
home exercise space
BENEFITS
- Helps you meet the recommended exercise guidelines
- Structured program to learn and practice safe and effective exercises
- Resistance-based training may help combat some side effects of long-term prostate
cancer treatment, such as decreased muscle strength and bone density
- In-person and virtual programs offer social support and camaraderie with a community
of men who share similar experiences
ELIGIBILITY
- Men 19 years of age or older
- Have had a prostate cancer diagnosis (in any stage of treatment or recovery)
- Pass pre-exercise phone screening with a certified exercise physiologist
COST
- First-time participants: Discounted rate of $50 for 12 weeks
- Repeat participants: Regular rate of $120 for 12 weeks
- Cost is prorated for programs less than 12 weeks long
