Dr. Fiona Mitchell. Fiona, originally from Scotland, trained
as a radiation therapist in Edinburgh School of Radiation Therapy. She
worked in Holland and the UK before immigrating to Canada in 1989. Fiona
practiced at the BC Cancer Agency for over 21 years as the Provincial
Professional Practice and Academic Leader for Radiation Therapy. She was
responsible for ensuring the radiation therapists maintained the knowledge
and skills for their professional practice and the clinical leader for BCIT
radiation therapy students.
She left BC Cancer in 2010 to join BCIT as
Associate Dean of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologies where she
managed 10 related technology programs until 2014. She then became the
Senior Practice Leader in Radiation Therapy at the Edmonton Centre for
Cancer Control Alberta before returning to BC Cancer in 2021.
She has achieved a variety of academic accomplishments that include a
Doctorate in Educational Leadership, an MA in Leadership, and a BSc in
radiation therapy. She has received numerous professional awards including
a Fellow of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists
(CAMRT), and served as CAMRT President for 2008 and 2009. Fiona has
co-authored courses on education and leadership. She has participated in a
range of research initiatives resulting in an assortment of publications, which
she has presented nationally, and internationally.
